SummerSet Arts Festival Today

A perfect summer day for SummerSet Festival

All set for SummerSet.

Hundreds of people have been preparing for it for months – from schoolchildren making a hand-made rope for the labyrinth to artists creating huge installation pieces. Businesses, government and arts organizations have enthusiastically backed the project, originally proposed by artist Cynthia Knox. (See my earlier post).

The park has been slowly transformed this summer to prepare for this event. From winged horses to tree socks to floating sculpture.

I photographed the Unearth Collective (artists Katherine and Sarah) painting a tree, to prepare for today. (Don’t worry, it’s non-toxic paint that won’t harm the trees or the environment).

This afternoon, there will be four tents of live music. The Duwamish Tribe, dancers and drummers, live art projects, nature tours, and lots more.

Enjoy your weekend! Should be a good one. Highs in the mid-seventies both days.

A perfect day to enjoy the SummerSet festivities.  Bring your family to Ronald Bog Park (175th and Meridian) from 1-5 today. It’s free and parking is available at the school across the street (west side of Meridian).
