Get Out: Weekend Planner, March 30-April 1, Free Live Music at Third Place Commons

Looking for something to do? Check out these local and regional events this weekend

  • Where/When: 7:30-9:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, March 30-31, at .
  • Why Go: Come out to Third Place Commons this weekend for some free live music! Friday will feature the Fabulous Roof Shakers, a blues, R&B and soul band. Then on Saturday enjoy the blues-infused vocal jazz of Cherie Blues.

  • Where/When: 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, March 31, at .
  • Why Go: Join other volunteers at the Richmond Beach Strandberg Preserve as they plant native plants to rebuild this neighborhood forest area. Remember to dress for the weather, and it’s recommended that you bring the following: boots or comfortable athletic shoes, work clothes, rain gear and appropriate layers. Volunteers should bring a refillable water bottle. Water, snacks, tools, gloves and training will be provided.

  • Why Go: It's time for another used book sale at the Lake Forest Park Library. Walk out with a bagful of books, CDs, magazines and the occasional signed first edition.
  • Cost: Free.

  • Where/When: 8:30-10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, March 30-31, at .
  • Why Go: Join Unexpected Productions North as they present Improv Comedy Happy Hour. Unexpected Productions combines comedy, theatre, improv and sports into a very happy hour full of spontaneous fun. Audience participation is key as teams of improvisers create scenes based entirely on their suggestions and are scored by a panel of judges.
  • Cost: $10.

  • Where/When: 7 p.m. Saturday, March 31, at .
  • Why Go: Join the Rainbow City Band and the Rainbow City Orchestra for a special performance entitled, To the Stars and the Heavens Beyond. The performance will feature several selections from "2001: A Space Odyssey", including Richard Strauss' "Also Sprach Zarathustra," and Johan Strauss' "Blue Danube" waltz.
  • Cost: Tickets range between $15 and $20 and are available through the ECA box office at 425-275-9595, or online at ec4arts.org

  • Where/When: 7 p.m. Friday, March 30, at the Paramount Theater in Seattle.
  • Why Go: The Edmonds-Woodway High School jazz band is one of five bands performing at the 17th annual Starbucks Hot Java Cool Jazz concert. Joining Edmonds-Woodway Jazz Band will be musicians from Mountlake Terrace, Ballard, Roosevelt and Garfield high schools.
  • Cost: Tickets are $20 per person (all ages) and can be purchased at most Starbucks locations.
