What is evensong?

The Church through history has had services set for specific times of the day. The first English Book of Common Prayer combined the two evening services into Daily Evening Prayer. Through custom, when singing Evening Prayer, the name became evensong. It is choral evensong when a choir sings settings of portions of this service.
