Challenge Island Summer Camp

Challenge Island is a uniquely whimsical approach to teaching children science, tech, engineering, and math within the frame of a vacation island. Islands vary per week, changing the themes of the challenges. Initially, new campers will "land" officially on one of the Challenge Islands, be put into a tribe with colors, face paint, and their own tribal call and logo. After bonding, the tribes tackle various challenges the teachers present, using mostly materials found in garages and pantries, so they can replicate the challenges over again. From making wild roller coasters using pipe insulation, marbles, (and wearing goggles of course!), to making great Marshmallow Blasters that shoot marshmallows towards targets, to making great catapults from craft sticks and rubber bands, your child will have a fun-filled 3 hours of learning science while learning that success is not equal to the best, but the best effort. Scientific thought processes being used let the tribes return  to their challenges many times, as they improve upon what they have made. By approaching challenges scientifically, we teach children that in creative and critical thinking, we all win! Teachers introduce wacky word vocabularies, like potential and kinetic energy for the roller coasters.  Your youngster will advance in working in groups (hard stuff even for adults!). But all this hard work is really FUN, too, because of the Island Themes, the great decorations to create an island atmosphere, and the additional games we play to make the entire experience a camp they will never forget!  Challenge Island camps at Juanita CC. every week this summer until August 22. http://www.challenge-island.com/bothell or tgonzalez@challenge-island.com   or 206-445-8513.
