Celebrate the Feast of the Transfiguration of Our Lord Jesus Christ

Church of the Redeemer anticipates its celebration of feast of the Transfiguration of Our Lord Jesus Christ. It occurs at the 8:00 am and 10:00 am worship services on Sunday, August 4, 2013. The regular feast day is August 6.

What is the Transfiguration?

The Transfiguration celebrates Jesus revealing Himself in shining splendor to Peter, James, and John.

The account in the Gospel according to Luke has Moses and Elijah present when this happens. This is to show that the Law and the Prophets testify that Jesus is the promised Messiah. In addition, God the Father proclaims Jesus as the Messiah, saying, “This is my Beloved Son. Listen to him.”

For a moment, the Transfiguration draws the veil. We glimpse the heavenly reality of the glory of the Eternal Triune God.

Some places dropped this feast during the Reformation. However, the Episcopal Church restored celebrating of the Feast of the Transfiguration to the Book of Common Prayer in 1892.

Another August Celebration at Redeemer

The Transfiguration is not the only feast celebrated in August. Redeemer also celebrates the feast of St. Mary the Virgin, Mother of Our Lord Jesus Christ. This occurs on Sunday, August 18, 2013, at the 8:00 am and 10:00 am services.
