Snow or Not, Some Things Aren't Optional
Essential services are mostly still available
On a day like this the weather people will always chant ‘If you don’t have to go out, stay home!’ That’s good advice if you don’t have to leave home, but what if you do? No matter what Mother Nature’s doing you have to eat, and regular medical treatments still must be regular!
The and most other such facilities are closed today. You don’t risk your life for mere recreation (unless you’re a mountain climber and that’s the point). There are senior services working today, though.
Meals on Wheels is so busy they’re not taking live phone calls, but will respond to all voicemails. While they can’t get food out today, they’ll be delivering tomorrow, Friday the 20th, or Monday the 23rd. You can get ahold of Meals on Wheels at (206) 206-448-3110, (206) 448-5767 or 1-888-308-6325 or can fax them at (206) 448-5756 or you can Email

Those on drug rehab treatment are having a more difficult time. Therapeutic Health Services is closed today for the weather (they’ll be open again tomorrow at 7:00 AM), as are the
and TLC Recovery LLC, 19940 Ballinger Way NE. TLC’s phone is active, though, and the proprietor told me if an addict was in desperate straits s/he could go to Fairfax Hospital, Harborview, Providence Everett, Swedish, or Valley General in Monroe.
Dialysis is nonnegotiable, too. NKC Lake City Kidney Center is open for all services, and they say “95% of patients have gotten here safely.” It helps, presumably, that they’re on a major road.

Metro Transit is running only snow routes today, and tomorrow. Community Transit and Sound Transit express routes are getting through on a limited basis . No matter what, stay safe out there.
