Shoreline CC Hosts Mixed Martial Arts Action this Saturday Night

Attending the Genesis Fights this weekend at Shoreline Community College? Check out our Q&A with the promotion's Matchmaker and Producer, Brandon Dudley.

Looking to add a little excitement to your Saturday night? Genesis Fights: Coup D'etat could be just what you've been looking for. The event features the top fighters from the local area in a night of non-stop kickboxing and mixed martial arts action. Shoreline Patch caught up with the promotion's Matchmaker and Producer, Brandon Dudley for a quick Q & A before the big night this Saturday.

Patch: What is Genesis Fights and how did it get started?

Dudley: The oldest MMA fight promotion in the United States. Started by Matt "The Wizard" Hume in 1990.

Patch: Has the promotion always been held at Shoreline Community College?

Dudley: No, it has been held in many states and several countries.

Patch: How did Shoreline Community College get in the mix? Was hosting a MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) event an easy sell to the school?

Dudley: Many of the champions come from AMC Kickboxing in Kirkland, WA. We have been to other local colleges but found Shoreline cooperative and enthusiastic to work with and a good size venue for Genesis Fights.

Patch: Saturday's event is being called Coup D'etat. Where did that name come from and what does it mean?

Dudley: "Takeover of State". A coup is basically an overthrow of power. The titles are on the line and the challengers are staging a Coup to take the titles away from the champs!

Patch: Saturday's event features both professional and amateur fighters. What's the difference between the two?

Dudley: There is not much difference other than how much they are paid. These are the top local fighters.

Patch: How similar are the Genesis Fights to a UFC event?

Dudley: We feature kickboxing and other martial arts along with MMA. MMA is what is done in the UFC.

Patch: Who are the big names competing on Saturday? Any chance we'll see any of them fighting on TV any time soon?

Dudley: Drew "The Eternal Fire" Brokenshire and Brent "Mankill" Knopp. Quite possibly, their teammates went from recent Genesis Fights bouts to a UFC title!

Patch: How much are tickets and where can we get them?

Dudley: $25 at the door or various prices on www.genesisfights.com/. Also by phone at 425-822-9656

Patch: After Coup D'etat, what's next for Genesis Fights?

Dudley: We do quarterly events. Fans can check our upcoming dates at www.genesisfights.com or on our Facebook page.
