New Year's Day: What's Open and Closed in Shoreline, Lake Forest Park

Here's what you need to know for the Tuesday holiday.

Tuesday is New Year's Day, the first holiday of 2013.

If you are traveling, check out the Washington State Department of Transportation web pages to plan your route. Be sure to check traffic and weather conditions along Interstate 90 at Snoqualmie Pass, U.S. 2 at Stevens Pass, Interstate 5 near the U.S./Canadian border and I-5 between Olympia and Tacoma.

Here is a list of what’s open and what's closed:

Shoreline City Hall will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 1.

Shoreline School District is on winter break. District offices are closed Tuesday. Classes resume Thursday, Jan. 3. The Shoreline Children's Center daycare is available Wednesday, Jan. 2.

Spartan Recreation Center and Shoreline Pool will be closed.

Lake Forest Park City Hall will be closed Tuesday.

Town Center at Lake Forest Park is open 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Tuesday.

King County government: Closed Tuesday.

U.S. Postal Service: Closed Tuesday.

King County Library System is closed Tuesday.

King County Metro transit: Sunday schedule in effect Tuesday, Jan. 1. Details are available here.

Sound Transit: Express buses will operate on a Sunday schedule on Tuesday, Jan. 1. Sounder trains won't run Tuesday. Tacoma Link and Central Link will run on Sunday schedules on Tuesday.

State of Washington: Closed Tuesday.

Washington State Ferries: Routes will operate on revised and holiday schedules. Note that the winter sailing schedule started Dec. 30.

Federal government: Closed Tuesday.

Banks: Many, if not most, will be closed Tuesday. Check your local branch.

Garbage and Recycling: Republic Services will not collect on Tuesday, Jan. 1. Pickup will be delayed one day through the rest of the week (Tuesday customers collected on Wednesday, etc.) More details are available here.
