VIEWFINDER: Bust of Peruvian Admiral Presented to People of LFP

Peruvian Consulate in Lake Forest Park dedicates bust of Admiral Miguel Grau Seminario

For Lake Forest Park's 50th anniversary as a city, the Peruvian Consulate which calls LFP home, decided to honor the city with a bust of one Peru's national heroes, Admiral Miguel Grau Seminario.

, a celebrated Peruvian naval officer and hero of the Battle of the Angamos during the War of the Pacific (1879-1884), was known as "el Caballero de los Mares" or "Gentleman of the Seas," for his chivalry in battle. 

The bust, made of bronze, was presented as a gift from the people of Peru to Lake Forest Park by Consul General Miguel Angel Velasquez Garcia and Peruvian Naval Commander Luis Nicolas Osorio Bromberg to Mayor Dave Hutchinson in a ceremoney Sat. Oct. 29.

About 100 people attended the event. 

The Rotary Club of Lake Forest Park, including members Jeff Weissman, Fred Lupton and Tom Dolan, coordinated the effort to install the bust with the Lake Forest Park Public Works staff and secured donations for the pedestal.

The United States Navy Band, from Navy Region Northwest performed at the ceremony as did two Peruvian dancers.

Other consulates were represented at the ceremony including Turkey and Taiwan.
