Ballinger Blockbuster to Close

Last day to rent Feb. 24 and customers get free candy, soda and popcorn; everything goes on sale Feb. 25

Blockbuster Video in Ballinger Village, located just off of I-5 in Shoreline, will be closing later this month as part of the company’s strategy as it emerges from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

The last day to rent DVDs and games is Feb. 24; on Feb. 25 everything in the store will go on sale.

Right now, customers can pick up free popcorn, candy and soda with a rental until the store closes.

The struggling company filed Chapter 11 last year with $1 billion in debt on its books and increasing competition from Redbox and Netflix.

Blockbuster executives told the major Hollywood studios last August that they expected to shutter 500 to 800 of its 3,425 U.S. stores as part of a bankruptcy process that would begin in September, the L.A. Times reported.
