Health & Fitness

Hello Patch Readers!

Hello everyone! Welcome to the first post of my patch.com blog! I hope you'll find my posts of interest and I look forward to your comments.

I’m relatively new to blogging, but not to this community.  My family has lived in Kenmore for nearly 40 years.  When we first arrived, towering evergreens bordered the entire length of our quiet street.  It was a beautiful new environment for my family as we came from a largely treeless street in suburban California.

Today, many of those evergreens are gone and there are more than six times as many homes in our neighborhood--they’ve multiplied from 12 to 73!  I miss Kenmore’s long-gone drive-in theatre and the trees that once shaded our street, but it’s still a beautiful place to call home and I love our new neighbors.

During these years, health care has also gone through a significant transformation.  Access, affordability and effectiveness have become serious concerns to many families and challenge our nation’s economic well-being.

On the other hand, there's a growing awareness that thought can have a definite effect on our health.  And that we all can live more healthy lives by watching the thoughts we entertain.  I’ll get more into this later as one of the health topics I hope to write about.

Kenmore is not Shoreline or Lake Forest Park, but I’m not a stranger to either of these communities. Years ago, I enjoyed designing the UW Shoreline Clinic.  It was an exciting time for me as my architectural office was just getting started.

I also enjoy being a regular at Third Place Books and the Honey Bear Cafe in Lake Forest Park. Take a look at my photo on this site and if you ever spot me at either place, I hope you’ll introduce yourself; I love meeting new people!
