Trumpet and Trombone Students: Spots Open in 2012 Shoreline Jazz Camp

The Shoreline Jazz Camp will be held at Shorewood High School August 6 – 10, 13, 14 from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Do you know a trumpet or trombone student in 7th to 12th grade, who loves jazz? The Shoreline-Lake Forest Park Arts Council’s summer Jazz Camp is the place to be!

The Shoreline Jazz Camp will be held at Shorewood High School August 6 – 10, 13, 14 from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Spots are filling fast in drums, piano, and guitar, and we’re at the waiting list point for saxophones, but we have lots of room yet for trumpet and trombone players! Our Shoreline Jazz Camp is for middle and high school students who are excited about and want to get more involved in a summer of jazz. Young musicians in the camp have the opportunity to learn and play with some of the region’s most accomplished teachers and performers. Our program creates a safe and structured learning environment, in which students of varying skill levels are able share in the joy of playing jazz. The camp includes instruction in large and small ensembles, and a series of master classes that are designed to refine the individual’s skills and understanding of jazz.

The cost is $315 and some scholarships are available. The camp will showcase the students’ hard work in two performances on August 14. The first will be an 11 a.m. lunch concert at Shorewood High School, and the second will be at 7 p.m. at the Shoreline North City Jazz Walk, 17739 15th Ave NE.

Applications are available online at http://shorelinearts.net/Arts-Education/august-jazz-camps.html. For more information, including scholarships and deadlines, please contact the Arts Council at 206-417-4645.
