“Savage Love” Columnist to Speak at Third Place Books

Dan Savage will talk about a new book about bullying he co-wrote with his partner, Terry Miller. It was inspired by a rash of suicides.

Seattle gay activist Dan Savage and his partner, Terry Miller, will talk about their new book May 13 at in Lake Forest Park.

The book, It Gets Better : Coming Out, Overcoming Bullying, and Creating a Life Worth Living, was released on March 22 by Dutton Adult. The authors were inspired to write the book after a number of suicides by gay students who had been bullied in school.

Savage, who writes the syndicated column “Savage Love” for the Seattle weekly newspaper The Stranger and is its editor, uploaded a video to YouTube with his partner to inspire hope. In the book, both write openly about the bullying they suffered as teenagers, and how they both went on to lead rewarding adult lives.

It Gets Better is a collection of expanded essays and new material from celebrities, everyday people and teens who have posted videos of encouragement, as well as new contributors who have yet to post videos to the site.

Dan Savage and Terry Miller will appear May 13 at 6:30 p.m. at , 17171 Bothell Way NE, Lake Forest Park.
