Arts Crush Returns for Second Year

Shoreline and Lake Forest Park residents can take part in several events throughout October.

Grab a paintbrush, catch a play, hear some poetry, or do all three, as Arts Crush events return to Shoreline for a second year.

Throughout the month of October, local residents will have the chance to participate in several arts events throughout Shoreline and Lake Forest Park. It all kicks off next week with Artists-In-Action in the lobby of Shoreline City Hall.

People can try their hand at Sumi painting with artist Ann Blanch from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M. this Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, or watch Amy Pleasant work on a generational painting in her lobby studio this Tuesday to Friday from 9 A.M. to 4 P.M.

Meanwhile, Shoreline Community College will host four events of their own throughout the month, starting with a free showing of the play, "Almost, Maine," on October 6. October 12 brings a free poetry reading from "Spindrift," an art and literary journal that's published the works of local and regional artists and writers since 1965. A night of standup comedy will grace the SCC stage on October 19, while award winning films produced by the college's students and staff will be shown on October 25. All four events start at 7:30 P.M. and take place in the campus theater.

Finally, families and children from 3 to 12 are welcome to attend the Last Leaf Productions' free performance of Aesop's Fable, "Town Mouse, Country Mouse," on the Third Place Commons stage on October 22 at 1 P.M. An autograph session and a chance to meet with the author and actors will follow the performance.

"Next year we hope to have an even more jam packed "Crush" in the Shoreline-Lake Forest Park area to celebrate the arts and enliven our communities all month long." said Ros Bird, Public Art Coordinator for the City of Shoreline.

Facilitated by Theatre Puget Sound, in collaboration with hundreds of artists and art organizations, Arts Crush is an October-long regional celebration of all arts. There are hundreds of free events throughout the region, and a different art form is spotlighted every week. More information may be found by going to the Arts Crush website at www.artscrush.org.
