Whiz Kid: Fidele Chishungu of Parkwood Elementary

Name:   Fidele Chishungu

Hometown:  Shoreline 

School:  Parkwood Elementary 

Major accomplishments: Fidele is a member of Parkwood's 6th Grade Running Club. His coaches noticed that he ran a seven-minute mile effortlessly, and then watched him win the district cross country half mile race with a pace of 6:15/mile. "Fidel is greatly admired by his peers on the team for his ability, but also genuinely liked because of his consistent kindness towards others," Coach Ploudre.  

Key to awesomeness: Fidele came to the United States and enrolled at Parkwood Elementary in February of 2010 as a refugee from the war-torn Democratic Republic of Congo. He has four sisters and one brother in which now live with two loving foster families in Shoreline. In a short year he has become a star athlete, a passionate learner, and a well liked member of his class. One of his teachers, Ms. Waylen writes, "Fidele is not only an extremely hard worker, but he has a real interest in learning."

Fidele has overcome serious challenges in his journey from the Congo to the United States. His strength of character, intelligence, and special talents have inspired us all. It will be exciting to see what the future holds for this gifted young man!
