This Weekend in Shoreline, LFP: Jazz, Basketball, MLK Day of Service

Here's a sampling of things to do in and around Shoreline and Lake Forest Park for the long holiday weekend.

With the long weekend coming up, we’ve put together a sampling of things to do this weekend starting Thursday and through the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday on Monday. For a full listing of events, check out our calendar.

Thursday, Jan. 17

Find out what's happening in Shoreline-Lake Forest Parkwith free, real-time updates from Patch.

•Fundraiser: Shorecrest basketball "Courts for Kids" service project. Ten percent of all sales on Jan. 17 from 5:00-10:00 p.m. at the Lake Forest Bar and Grill will be donated to the Shorecrest basketball program, which will be working with Courts for Kids, a non-profit organization that matches groups wanting to do a service project with villages in the developing world that have requested help to build a basketball court.

Friday, Jan. 18

•Free live music at Third Place Commons. Every Friday and Saturday. On Jan. 18, hear Ambiance Jazz Quartet, 7:30-9:30 p.m. For details, check out the Third Place Commons calendar.

•Looking for MLK Day service projects? Here’s a list of volunteer events from United Way of King County throughout the region. Registration deadline is Friday, Jan. 18.

Saturday, Jan. 19

•Shorecrest/Shorewood ‘Hoopalooza’. Get ready for a day of boys and girls basketball at the new Shorecrest High School gymnasium. Click the link for the schedule.

•Free live music at Third Place Commons. Every Friday and Saturday. On Jan. 19, check out the blues and jazz music of Chris Stevens & the Surf Monkeys, 7:30-9:30 p.m. For details, check out the Third Place Commons calendar.

•Appearing Birds and Vanishing Food & Beverages. Fun for all ages (children too). Magicians Bruce & Jennifer Meyers return to Club Hollywood featuring their award winning original act, the hilarious "Vaya Con Huevos!" 7 p.m., at Club Hollywood Casino.

Sunday, Jan. 20

•Third Place Gamers. Join the Third Place Gamers every Sunday in the Commons at 1 p.m. to play a variety of board, card and party games.

Monday, Jan. 21

•Volunteer for Shoreline Community College’s 2013 MLK Day of Service Food Drive. Help us honor Dr. King by collecting 25,000 pounds of food in one day! We need volunteers to fill multiple capacities at multiple sites to make this event a success. Click the link for details.
