Pet of the week - Toby

One year old pup ready for a home

From pound puppies to purebreds, Patch spotlights dogs who enjoy what Shoreline/Lake Forest Park has to offer. For some dogs, like this week’s pet Toby, they need a loving and safe home.

Toby is just one year old. He is a brown & white Jack Russell Terrier and Chihuahua mix packed with energetic fun. The 14 pound pup loves to play with other dogs and toys. Ideally his forever home will have another dog for Toby to play with.

He is sweet around people of all ages, excellent around kids even infants. At his foster home he gets along great with cats and guinea pigs. Toby even sleeps with a 6 month old kitten! He is housebroken, smart, easy and would make an excellent family dog. His foster mom says Toby is the most appreciative and loving dog ever.

Toby was rescued by Ginger Luke's Death Row Dog Rescue from a kill shelter in California. These sorts of shelters euthanize more than 2,500 dogs every single month within 24 to 48 hours of them surrendered or dumped off. Ginger, a Shoreline resident and owner of Greenwood’s Rickshaw Restaurant, has rescued more than 3,500 dogs since January 2006.

Once under Ginger’s care Toby was groomed, including an ear cleaning. Under a vet’s care he was dewormed, microchipped and had his shots, including rabies and Bordatella, plus he was tested for heart worm. Now he is ready to go to their forever home.

Toby’s adoption fee is $495 that covers his neuter, shots, dental check, flea treatment, grooming, microchip, boarding fees, health certificate and transport expense.

Even those who cannot care for a rescue dog can help dogs, like Toby, by donating to  Ginger Luke's Death Row Dog Rescue, a 501 C 3 organization, to help pay the vet bills and save these dogs who have been through so much. Foster homes and donations of leashes, collars and crates are also needed.
