Pet of the week - Penny

Puppy mill rescued Chihuahua

From pound puppies to pure breds Patch spotlights dogs who enjoy what Shoreline/Lake Forest Park has to offer.

For some dogs, like this week’s pet Penny, she is needing a loving and safe home. The adorable fawn colored 6-year-old Chihuahua, just eight pounds of sweetness, was rescued from a puppy mill where she was breed over and over her entire life.

Ginger Luke's Death Row Dog Rescue liberated her and her five teeny puppies. Ginger, a Shoreline resident and owner of Greenwood’s Rickshaw Restaurant, has rescued more than 3,500 dogs since January 2006.

Penny is currently at a foster home where she nestles under her foster mom’s chin while watching television and cuddles up in front of the fire place. She gets along with people of all ages, older kids who are kind and other dogs and cats.

Once under Ginger’s care Penny had a warm bath then her ears were cleaned. She was dewormed, microchipped and had her shots, including rabies, updated by a vet. Now she is all ready to go to their forever home.

Penny’s adoption fee is $495 that covers her spay, shots, a necessary Cherry Eye surgery, grooming, microchip, boarding fees, health certificate and transport expense.

Even those who cannot care for a rescue dog can help dogs, like Penny, by donating to  Ginger Luke's Death Row Dog Rescue, a 501 C 3 organization, to help pay the vet bills and save these dogs who have been through so much. Foster homes and donations of leashes, collars and crates are also needed.
