Pet of the week - Gomer

Papillon sprung from puppy mill

From pound puppies to purebreds Patch spotlights dogs who enjoy what Shoreline/Lake Forest Park has to offer. For some dogs, like this week’s pet Gomer, they need a loving home.

The 3-year-old purebred Tri Colored Papillon was rescued from a breeder by Ginger Luke's Death Row Dog Rescue who took Gomer knowing that there is a forever home just waiting for this 9-pound pup. Ginger, a Shoreline resident and owner of Greenwood’s Rickshaw Restaurant, has rescued more than 3,500 dogs since January 2006.

Gomer is shy right now and would do best in a home with another small dog that can tutor him how to play and feel comfortable in a home after his life in a kennel. He needs extra tender loving care as he learns to walk on a leash and snuggle in a soft bed. He gets along with people of all ages and other dogs, but he has not been around cats before.

Once under Ginger’s care Gomer was groomed, including an ear cleaning. Under a vet’s care he was dewormed, microchipped and had his shots, including rabies, updated. He also had knee surgery and has recuperated well. Now he is ready to go to their forever home.

Gomer’s adoption fee is $795 that covers his neuter, surgery, price to save him from the puppy mill, shots, dental work and teeth extractions, grooming, microchip, boarding fees, health certificate and transport expense.

Even those who cannot care for a rescue dog can help dogs, like Gomer, by donating to  Ginger Luke's Death Row Dog Rescue, a 501 C 3 organization, to help pay the vet bills and save these dogs who have been through so much. Foster homes and donations of leashes, collars and crates are also needed.
