Pet of the week - Congo

Purebred from breeder

From pound puppies to purebreds, Patch spotlights dogs who enjoy what Shoreline/Lake Forest Park has to offer. Some dogs, like this week’s pet, Congo, need a loving home.

The 6-year-old purebred black and white Pekingese was rescued from a breeder, who is very ill and is downsizing, by Ginger Luke's Death Row Dog Rescue. The rescue group took Congo knowing that there is a forever home just waiting for this 13-pound pup. Ginger, a Shoreline resident and owner of Greenwood’s Rickshaw Restaurant, has rescued more than 3,500 dogs since January 2006.

Congo is a mellow boy, an excellent lap dog and has a temperament that enables him to go just about anywhere--even to an office for the day. He gets along with people of all ages and other dogs, but he has not been around cats before.

Once under Ginger’s care, Congo was groomed, including an ear cleaning. Under a vet’s care he was dewormed, microchipped and had his shots, including rabies, updated. Now he is ready to go to that forever home.

Congo’s adoption fee is $550, which covers his neutering, shots, dental work and teeth extractions, grooming, microchip, boarding fees, health certificate and transport expense.

Even those who cannot care for a rescue dog can help dogs, like Congo, by donating to  Ginger Luke's Death Row Dog Rescue, a 501(c)(3) organization, to help pay the vet bills and save these dogs who have been through so much. Foster homes and donations of leashes, collars and crates are also needed.
