Pet of the week - Aspen

Rescued dog seeks forever home

From pound puppies to purebreds Patch spotlights dogs who enjoy what Shoreline/Lake Forest Park has to offer. In the case of this week's pet, Aspen, he hopes Shoreline/Lake Forest Park offers kind residents, with big hearts and warm homes.

Aspen is an adorable 7 year old Chihuahua and Terrier mix. He is just 12 pounds of fun and can’t wait to go for walks, car rides or just sit in your lap.

Ginger Luke's Death Row Dog Rescue brought Aspen up from a kill shelter in California, where more than 2,500 dogs are euthanized after being in the shelter only 24 to 48 hours. Most of these dogs were either abused, abandoned, locked up, found tied up, found lost in the streets, surrendered or dumped off by uncaring humans.

Besides looking for forever homes for these dogs, the group also needs foster homes and donations of collars, leashes, crates and treats.

Aspen is one of the lucky dogs rescued. After his trip north he was given a warm bath, then his ears were cleaned. He was dewormed and microchipped then he got his shots, including rabies, by a vet. Now Aspen is perfectly healthy and ready to go to his forever home.

Aspen gets along with other dogs and with gentle kids. He has not been around cats before.

He is available through Ginger Luke's Death Row Dog Rescue, a 501 C 3 organization. His adoption fee is $475 to help offset his care, Neuter and vet treatments.
