Patch Picks for Memorial Day
Check out these events on a day that honors veterans who have died
1) Northwest Folklife Festival:
This is the 40th anniversary of an outdoor event that includes food stands, international craft booths, music, dance and presentations. On Memorial Day, special events will include: a youth performing arts showcase from 6-8 p.m. (performers play music from a range of genres), Emerald City Trapeze Artists showcase at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. and a Bulgarian lesson for all ages from 11a.m.- 6 p.m. But throughout the four day festival there are a wide range of events to attend.

2) Seattle Japanese Garden Children’s Day:
-This is an event to celebrate the Japanese holiday for children. It will include traditional dances, a Japanese language puppet show and arts-and-craft activities for children. Guests will also have the opportunity to explore the Japanese garden at the park.
-Where: 1075 Lake Washington Blvd E, Seattle WA 98112.
-When: 11 a.m. -3p.m.
-Cost: $10/ adult with up to two children (12 and under) (additional children are each $4); $10/ individual adult; $5/ ages 13 -17, senior adults 65 and older, college students with ID or people with disabilities.
3) Memorial Day Service and tour:
This event is specifically meant to honor America’s veterans. There will be speakers and Seattle Pacific University’s wind ensemble performing, along with a tour of the Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
-Where: Evergreen-Washelli Memorial Park, 11111 Aurora Ave N., Seattle
-When: 1:30 p.m. Tour of cemetery starts at 3:15 p.m.
-Cost: Free (tour of cemetery requests a $5 donation).
4) Edmonds Memorial Day Ceremony:
-This is another event meant to honor America’s veterans. Its main proceedings will include their speaker, Michael Reagan, who has spent most of his life painting more than 2,000 veterans.
-Where: Edmonds Memorial Cemetery, 820 15th St. S.W., Edmonds.
-When: 11 a.m.
-Cost: Free
5) Museum of Flight:
-This event will begin with the Boeing Employees Concert Band performing patriotic music. Afterwards the president of the museum and mayor of Tukwila will lead a ceremony to honor veterans. This will also include veteran special guests.
Where: 9404 E. Marginal Way S., Seattle (In museum's Side Gallery).
When: 12 p.m. – 3 p.m.
Cost: $9-$16; Free for veterans and active military and their families.
