The National Weather Service Seattle issued a special weather statement today for Shoreline, Lake Forest Park and the Puget Sound area.

HEAVY SHOWERS AND SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS EXPECTED TODAY... A FRONTAL SYSTEM ASSOCIATED WITH AN UPPER LOW OFFSHORE WILL MOVE NORTHEAST ACROSS THE REGION THIS AFTERNOON AND THIS EVENING.
THE FRONT IS TAPPED INTO SOME TROPICAL MOISTURE LOCATED OVER THE CENTRAL NORTH PACIFIC...AND THE AIR MASS ACROSS WESTERN WASHINGTON IS QUITE MOIST. SO RAINFALL RATES WITH THE SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE HEAVY AT TIMES.

AT THIS TIME IT APPEARS THAT HEAVIEST SHOWERS WILL BE OVER THE CASCADES...OLYMPICS...AND ALONG THE COAST. IN THESE AREAS...WIDESPREAD RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF 1.50 TO 2.00 INCHES ARE LIKELY THROUGH TONIGHT.

THE INTERIOR LOWLANDS WILL SEE WIDESPREAD RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF 0.50 TO 1.25 INCHES THROUGH TONIGHT. THERE IS A CHANCE THAT LOCALLY HEAVIER SHOWERS OR THUNDERSTORMS MAY DUMP 1 TO 2 INCHES OF RAIN IN A ONE HOUR PERIOD. IF THIS OCCURS...LOCAL FLASH FLOODING OR URBAN AND SMALL STREAM FLOODING IS POSSIBLE. IF YOU SEE HEAVY RAIN AND WATERS ARE RISING...TURN AROUND AND DO NOT DROWN.
