Do You Still Use Vinyl Records, VHS and (Gasp!) Dial-up Internet?

When was the last time you printed your vacation photos from film?

Do you still use a landline phone, fax machines and VHS tapes on a daily basis?

Instead of upgrading to the latest and the newest gadgets, more than 60 percent of Americans are hanging onto technology that are considered "old-school" today, according to an article on LiveScience.com.

In a society where digital music is available at a touch of a button, vinyl records are on the list of things that are far from extinction.

In fact, 4.6 million LPs were sold in America in 2012, according to LiveScience.com.

A local record shop owner agrees that record vinyls are here to stay.

"We're finding that the young people of today--from junior high to 30--are getting their fathers' collection or their grandfathers' collection," said Darren Compton, who owns Vortex Music & Movies in Kirkland. "They're bypassing downloading, and CDs are going by the wayside."

Compton opened the store in 2012 and said about 40 percent of his business is dedicated to LPs.

"As far as convenience, it's certainly not convenient to use a record player," he said. "But I think it has to do with the retro aesthetics and the art that the vinyl provides."

Compton said his customers also embrace the idea of holding a physical product while they listen to a record.

"I think there's something a little bit soulless about downloading all the time. It's not the same as having a 12-by-12 piece of art," he said. "It's a cool phenomenon."

Along with the vinyl records, here are 11 more outdated items that many Americans use today:

  • Dial-up Internet
  • Pagers
  • Dot matrix printers
  • PDAs
  • Pay phones
  • Blank VHS and cassette tapes
  • Landline phones
  • CRT TVs
  • Camera film
  • Windows 98 and 2000
  • Fax machines
