34 volunteers wash feet at 2013 Day of Caring Resource Day

On September 17, 2013, 34 volunteers washed the feet of those experiencing homelessness. This was at Seattle Center during the 2013 Day of Caring Resource Day, organized by United Way of King County. Volunteers wash feet and provide advanced foot care. Emily Austin of Church of the Redeemer, Kenmore, Washington, coordinates this effort.

"The event went really well yesterday. We had a total of 34 amazing volunteers," according to Austin. About half were from Church of the Redeemer. Others included friends, neighbors, people from several other churches in the Diocese of Olympia, and the United Way.

Volunteers worked a morning or afternoon shift at the Day of Caring. About 200 people had their feet washed. Around 40 received advanced foot care, which includes nail trimming and caring for corns and calluses. The advanced foot care team worked one stretch for five hours without a break. All people received clean socks from the volunteers.
