Debate between Dr. Art Coday and state Sen. Michael Baumgartner
Dr. Art Coday of Shoreline and state Sen. Michael Baumgartner of Spokane will debate this evening, Thursday, May 17, at: 6:30 p.m. at the Innis Arden Club House, 1430 NW 188th Shoreline, WA 98177. Both candidates are running in the state's nonpartisan blanket primary Aug. 7 along with incumbent democrat U.S. Sen. Maria Cantwell, who is running for her third six-year term. The system allows voters to vote for any candidate running in the race, regardless of party affiliation. The top two vote-getters in the primary election qualify for the general election in November 6.

Opponents question support for Siegfried in 46th
Republicans say they will announce early next week which candidates they support in the 32nd Legislative District, but whoever the candidates are, they will start the campaign far behind incumbent Democratic State Reps. Ruth Kagi and Cindy Ryu in fundraising, Republicans in the Snohomish County part of the District met May 1 in Lynnwood to discuss possible candidates. The national media is abuzz right now with President Barack Obama's endorsement of same-sex marriage. For many it was a long-time coming--others still believe it should still be one man-one woman. Obama becomes the first sitting president to announce his support for same-sex marriage. About 20 people come to Brookside Elementary on a sunny Sunday to support the president.
They were few in turnout on Sunday, but about 20 people came to the Democratic caucuses at Brookside Elementary in Lake Forest Park to show unwavering support for President Barack Obama. Obama has had his critics on the left, but not with the Democrats of Precinct 0517 in LFP. "I'm happy with everything he's done," said Theldona Esko, LFP resident for 48 years, who voted for Obama in 2008. "We've never missed a caucus," she said. "Got to support your politics," said Maurice Esko, her husband. "We're going to be delegates." Nineteen people signed up to be delegates at Brookside on Sunday. Why Special Election isn’t earlier; Election material now in three languages
Democrats in Shoreline, Lake Forest Park and around the state will meet in precinct caucuses Sunday a 1 p.m. People can find the location of their local caucuses by going to the state Democratic Party web site at http://www.wa-democrats.org/caucuses and entering a name or address. The Democrats don’t require caucus participants to show identifying documents. Participants in the precinct caucuses will elect delegates to the 32nd or 46th district caucuses April 28 and to the King County convention April 29, and send resolutions to the County convention. Reed, a Republican, will step down after 12 years on the job next year
Washington Secretary of State Sam Reed visited Shoreline Community College PUB on Tuesday to encourage voting and student involvement in politics and government. Reed, a Republican, and the 14th Secretary of State of Washington state, is in the midst of touring 45 college campuses across the state in his final term to preach the importance of getting involved in the political process. "You need to get engaged," he said. "Think about getting involved with candidates and issues." Voters in Washington’s 1st Congressional District will choose a successor to Jay Inslee for the final weeks of his two-year term. Gov. Chris Gregoire, with the support of Secretary of State Sam Reed, announced Monday that she is calling a special election to coincide with the regularly scheduled Aug. 7 Top 2 Primary and the Nov. 6 General Election. Democrat Inslee, a 15-year veteran of Congress, resigned effective March 20 to devote full time to his bid for governor. The governor said “It is important that the people of the 1st District have representation, especially in December when key votes on matters that affect our state may need to be cast,” including sales tax reform and deductibility of sales taxes.
