Rick Steves on Tour to Promote Marijuana Initiative

The Edmonds resident and travel guru is well-known for his efforts to legalize marijuana.

European travel expert and Edmonds resident Rick Steves, perhaps the state's best-known proponent of legalizing marijuana, is now stumping for Initiative 502.

From the Washington Secretary of State Web site:

This measure would license and regulate marijuana production, distribution, and possession for persons over twenty-one; remove state-law criminal and civil penalties for activities that it authorizes; tax marijuana sales; and earmark marijuana-related revenues.

Steves, along with special guests, is traveling throughout the state, giving drug policy reform talks in 14 different communities. He will explain why he is co-sponsoring Initiative 502, an effort to legalize, tax, and regulate the sale of marijuana to adults in Washington state.

Drawing from Europe's pragmatic "harm reduction" approach to drug use and abuse, Steves says he believes that I-502 is a sensible "anti-Prohibition" (not "pro-pot") solution.
