A rivalry was born on Saturday night when Shorecrest's Girl's Basketball team edged the Glacier Peak Grizzlies, 63-51, in the 3A District 1 Championship game, at Lynnwood High School.
The Scots were led by senior Brianne Lasconia, who had 26 points, including two quick 3-pointers in the fourth quarter, to give SC their first lead since halftime.
Last year, the Scots fell to Grizzlies in the championship game, with an overtime loss.
This season, the Scots swept the Grizzlies, with three wins, including one earlier this month.
"Glacier's a great team, and it's tough to beat great teams three times in a season," said Dori Monson, SC's head coach, to the Everett Herald.
Monson, who has had a long coaching relationship with his seniors, called Lasconia "one of the best players in the state."
Lasconia, in her interview with the Herald, called the win the best feeling ever. "We knew if we came out we could do it."
Janie Uppinghouse and Onyie Chibuogwu added 12 and 10 points, respectively.
With the district's No. 1 seed, the Scots girls will continue to the state tournament, which begins next weekend.
